Photo Guide

The quality of your portrait depends first and foremost on the photo you send us. Here's what really makes a difference — and what doesn't.

What matters most

Face sharpness

This is the number one criterion. A slightly dark photo can be corrected; a blurry face cannot. Zoom in on the eyes before sending it to us: if they are sharp, the photo is suitable.

Lighting

Natural daylight, near a window or outdoors in the shade, yields the best results. Avoid direct flash, which flattens features, and backlighting, which turns the face into a silhouette.

Original file

Send the photo as it comes directly from your phone or camera. A screenshot, or an image forwarded multiple times via messaging, loses a lot of its detail.

What is not a problem

  • A photo taken with a phone — recent phones are more than sufficient.
  • A cluttered background — we will rework it.
  • An object or person to remove — tell us in the instructions.
  • An old photo, as long as the subject remains visible.

For a pet

Get down to their level rather than photographing from above. Wait for them to look towards you. A toy or treat held near the lens works well. Avoid photos taken in motion.

For a couple or family

Choose an image where all faces are sharp and of comparable size. If the individuals come from different photos, please email us before ordering: it's possible, but requires special preparation.

File format and size

JPG, PNG or WEBP, up to 20 MB. If your file exceeds this limit, please email it to us after ordering, indicating your order number.

In doubt?

Email us before ordering with the photo in question. We will frankly tell you if it's suitable. And if it turns out to be unusable after the order is placed, we will contact you before starting.
